Date Position |

Repunched 8 |
Obverse 22 is identified by date placement at LH and date repunching
that features initial date impressions to the northwest within the
lower loop, to the north above the top left side of the lower loop and
to the northwest above the upper loop of the 8. Obverse 22 has
developed moderately heavy die flow lines.
Reverse V is rotated 5 degrees clockwise and is in a similar die state
as Obverse 22, with the advancement of moderately heavy die flow lines.
Comments:
The Obverse 22 date repunching is similar to that of Obverse
20 from the 1893 Variety 18 die pairing. However, the date position of Obverse 20 is located further to the left compared to Obverse 22.
Variety 23 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above
plate coin during mid May 2018 for inclusion in this book based on
the Obverse 22 date repunching.
