Reverse AE.2 Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 31 is identified by date placement at C and possible date repunching that features an initial date impressions to the east of the base of the 1, within the upper and lower loops of the 8 and within the lower loop of the 9.  Obverse 31 is observed with die artifacts extending from the chin and a die line extending from the junction of the jaw and neck.

Reverse AE has yet to be observed with any die markers.
Rev. AE.2:  Reverse AE has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack segment from the first oak leaf in the right wreath upward to the acorn at 3:00.
2.  Die crack from the rim at 6:15 extending upward through the arrow quill and olive leaves to the first outside oak leaf.

Comments:  Since the Obverse 31 artifact to the east of the base of the 1 presents a compelling case of being a possible initial date impression, I have assumed that the roughness located within both loops of the 8 and within the lower loop of the 9 are also possible initial date impressions; though several 1890 obverses exhibit die roughness within the lower loop of the 9.

Variety 29 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the Variety 29a Plate Coin during late August 2019 for inclusion in this book based on the date repunching of Obverse 31.

During mid May 2020, David Killough submitted a second example of Variety 29 that resided in an earlier die state prior to the formation of the Reverse AE die cracks that were present on the first example he submitted.  David's initial submission is now plated as the Variety 29a Plate Coin in order to capture the Reverse AE.2 die state.
